Mike Rann is Chief Executive Officer of the Rann Strategy Group (RSG), based in London and Rome, with affiliates in Washington. Milan and Sydney. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Policy Institute of King’s College London. Mike was recently appointed Chairman of the Power of Nutrition UK and to the Board of The Climate Group.
Mike Rann is former Premier of South Australia and a former Australian Ambassador to two G8 nations. RSG draws on his nearly 40 years in government and working with business in Australia and internationally. He has the most extraordinary international network in business and politics that spans a broad range of sectors including renewable energy, climate change, sustainability and urban planning, defence and education.
As one of Australia’s most successful state Premiers (2002 to 2011), Mike Rann also held a range of portfolios as a Cabinet Minister including Economic Development; Business and Regional Development; Tourism; Arts; Employment and Further Education; and Social Inclusion.
The Rann Government invested strongly in re-vitalising South Australia’s capital city, Adelaide, through new approaches to planning and urban design, as well as large investments in transformational infrastructure, high tech precincts and transport oriented developments, and major events and festivals.
As one of the world's first Climate Change Ministers his leadership saw South Australia become a world leader in renewable energy which was recognised by Mike's appointment by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to the International Leadership Council of UK-based The Climate Group, and by his appointment in 2012 by the Australian Government as Chair of Low Carbon Australia Ltd, Australia’s “Green Bank”.
Mike Rann was National President of the Australian Labor Party during the Prime Ministership of Kevin Rudd. He was also elected by all other Australian Premiers and Chief Ministers to be the inaugural Chair of the Council of the Australian Federation, a policy think-tank for Australian States and Territories.
In late 2012, Mike Rann was appointed by Australia's Federal Labour Government as High Commissioner to the UK (2012-2014) and subsequently by the Abbott Government as Australia's Ambassador to Italy, Libya, Albania and San Marino and as Australia’s Permanent Representative to the UN agencies based in Rome (2014-2016). He served four Australian Prime Ministers in senior Ambassadorial roles in two G8 countries.
Mike Rann has been honoured by the Governments of Australia, New Zealand, Greece and Poland.
