Hon Mike Rann AC, CNZM
Chief Executive Officer

Mike Rann is Chief Executive Officer of the Rann Strategy Group (RSG), based in London and Rome, with affiliates in Washington. Milan and Sydney.  He is also a Visiting Professor at the Policy Institute of King’s College London.  Mike was recently appointed Chairman of the Power of Nutrition UK and to the Board of The Climate Group.

Mike Rann is former Premier of South Australia and a former Australian Ambassador to two G8 nations. RSG draws on his nearly 40 years in government and working with business in Australia and internationally. He has the most extraordinary international network in business and politics that spans a broad range of sectors including renewable energy, climate change, sustainability and urban planning, defence and education. 

As one of Australia’s most successful state Premiers (2002 to 2011), Mike Rann also held a range of portfolios as a Cabinet Minister including Economic Development; Business and Regional Development; Tourism; Arts; Employment and Further Education; and Social Inclusion. 

The Rann Government invested strongly in re-vitalising South Australia’s capital city, Adelaide, through new approaches to planning and urban design, as well as large investments in transformational infrastructure, high tech precincts and transport oriented developments, and major events and festivals.  

As one of the world's first Climate Change Ministers his leadership saw South Australia become a world leader in renewable energy which was recognised by Mike's appointment by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to the International Leadership Council of UK-based The Climate Group, and by his appointment in 2012 by the Australian Government as Chair of Low Carbon Australia Ltd, Australia’s “Green Bank”. 

Mike Rann was National President of the Australian Labor Party during the Prime Ministership of Kevin Rudd.  He was also elected by all other Australian Premiers and Chief Ministers to be the inaugural Chair of the Council of the Australian Federation, a policy think-tank for Australian States and Territories.

In late 2012, Mike Rann was appointed by Australia's Federal Labour Government as High Commissioner to the UK (2012-2014) and subsequently by the Abbott Government as Australia's Ambassador to Italy, Libya, Albania and San Marino and as Australia’s Permanent Representative to the UN agencies based in Rome (2014-2016). He served four Australian Prime Ministers in senior Ambassadorial roles in two G8 countries. 

Mike Rann has been honoured by the Governments of Australia, New Zealand, Greece and Poland.

Liesl Jordan

Liesl Jordan has had 25 years of experience working in the senior executive of government, in the private sector and with multi-lateral organisations. She is an experienced business consultant and program manager having worked in senior management consulting roles for global organisations Ernst & Young and EDS.  

A qualified lawyer and program manager, for three years Liesl was based in New Delhi, India where she led the delivery phases of a regional governance program for the United Nation's Development Program (UNDP).  Working with government and non-government organisations, Liesl’s role was to implement a range of regional capacity-building projects to support the UN’s objectives to decrease the spread of HIV and AIDS in South and Southeast Asia by building the capacity of NGOs and government organisations to tackle the underlying social, cultural and economic factors influencing health outcomes.   Although based in New Delhi her focus was Asia-wide. 

Between 2012 and 2016 served as the Attorney-General's Department senior representative in the Australian High Commission, London,where she was responsible for working with local partners to ensure a coordinated bilateral and multi-lateral responses to complex national security issues.  

Liesl now lives in London where, as a partner in the Rann Strategy Group, she draws on her wide ranging business and government experience to deliver strategic business advice to large multi-national corporations with a focus on the UK, the US, Italy and Australia.  She has lived and worked in Japan and has a good command of the Japanese language.  Liesl regularly works in Italy and speaks conversational Italian..

  • Bruce Hawker is Rann Strategy Group's key affiliate in Australia. Bruce is one of Australia's pre-eminent strategists in politics and business. Over many decades he has managed election campaigns at Federal and State level around Australia.  He was a key adviser to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and a series of State leaders, including New South Wales Premier Bob Carr, Queensland Premiers Peter Beattie and Anna Bligh, and South Australian Premier Mike Rann. Between 1998 and 2007 the Australian Labor Party won every State and Territory campaign Mr Hawker worked on as a strategist. In 2007, he was the key strategist for the Federal campaign which saw the election of Kevin Rudd as Prime Minister and the defeat of the Howard Government. Based in Sydney,  Mr Hawker has been named by the media as one of Australia's most influential power brokers.  He is the Managing Director of Campaigns and Communications specialising in corporate as well as political campaigns. Prior to that he was the founder of Australia's largest business government relations practice, Hawker Britton. Bruce is a well-known writer and political commentator, including as a regular guest on Sky News.  Mike Rann and Bruce Hawker have known and worked together for almost 30 years.

  • Daniele Mancini is Rann Strategy Group's key affiliate in Italy. Based in Milan, Daniele is Managing Partner of the GoNextGroup (www.gonextgroup.com) an investment and advisory business.  He was previously General Manager, International Expansion of REA Group, majority owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Limited, the Australian subsidiary of News Corporation.   Previously, Daniele was European General Manager of REA Group,  a leading player in online real estate. Daniele has 20 years experience in Internet and media, 'disrupting' traditional markets in areas such as real estate and travel.  He has experience in managing large organisations as well as start-ups, specialising in the digital transformation of businesses.   Under his leadership REA's revenue in Europe increased substantially and he drove its websites, such as Casa.it from their infancy to positions of market leadership.   Mr Mancini has held senior managerial positions in travel and technology companies. Daniele was a board member of the IAB (the Internet Advertising Bureau) which promotes links between between media and marketing organisations while providing guidance on how traditional players can thrive in the digital age. Daniele has a degree in business and economics from the University of Pescara and a Masters in Tourism Management from a university in Venice.
